The Merah Putih Initiative (TMPI) is a non-government institution, formed out of a deep commitment to addressing Indonesia’s evolving policy environment. Our mission is to set a new benchmark on how the country’s policy priorities are designed, executed, and improved.
As national policy priorities expanded in scale and ambition, many lacked clear public articulation and faced challenges in grassroots execution, resulting in suboptimal impact despite their long-term importance.
TMPI exists to close these gaps and strengthen how policy intent translates into credible development outcomes.
The Opportunity
We are seeking highly motivated interns who are passionate about public policy, governance, communications, social impact, research, and Indonesia’s development. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced organization working at the intersection of policy, implementation, communications, and stakeholder engagement. Interns will work closely with TMPI’s leadership and project teams, contributing to meaningful initiatives while developing practical skills and exposure to real-world policy challenges. This opportunity is ideal for students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals who are intellectually curious, proactive, and eager to contribute to impactful work that supports Indonesia’s development priorities
Key Responsibilities
Depending on organizational needs and the intern’s interests, responsibilities may include:
Research & Policy Support
- Conduct background research, literature reviews, and policy analysis on relevant issues.
- Assist in preparing policy briefs, reports, presentations, and other knowledge products.
- Support data collection, stakeholder mapping, and project documentation.
Program & Operations Support
- Assist in coordinating meetings, workshops, events, and stakeholder engagements.
- Support project implementation and administrative activities.
- Help monitor project timelines, deliverables, and follow-up actions.
Communications & Content Support
- Assist in drafting content for social media, publications, presentations, and public communications.
- Support content research, visual asset preparation, and digital engagement initiatives.
- Contribute to documenting organizational activities and impact stories.
Experience & Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in the final year of, or recently graduated from, a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Economics, International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines.
- Strong interest in public policy, governance, social impact, communications, education, or Indonesia’s development challenges.
- Excellent research, analytical, writing, and communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
- Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia; working proficiency in English is desirable.
- Demonstrated initiative through academic, organizational, research, volunteer, or professional experiences is highly valued.
- Candidates with knowledge, experience, research interests, or demonstrated engagement in one or more of TMPI’s impact areas will be viewed favorably, including:
